The majority of adult women have some cellulite on their bodies. Most commonly, cellulite deposits are found on the hips, thighs and buttocks and can be hard to get rid of.
Because cellulite is a combination of toxins, water, and fat that is trapped under the skin, massage combined with topical treatment can be an effective way to reduce the ripples and dimples it causes.
Many new products for cellulite treatment are utilizing old remedies made from spices and even coffee.
Before you go out and spend hundreds of dollars on expensive creams, wraps, and salon treatments, try these home remedies. Chances are you probably already have all of the necessary ingredients in your kitchen cabinet.
1. Ginger
Ginger is often the main ingredient in cellulite wraps and scrubs. Ginger helps improve circulation around fat cells and is known to remove toxins.
Some salons charge hundreds of dollars for cellulite body wrap treatments made with ginger. You can make your own cellulite-reducing scrub at home for just pennies.
Combine two tablespoons of grated ginger with one cup of sugar and mix with enough water to form a thick paste. Stand in the shower or bath and massage the paste on areas with cellulite, gently kneading with your fingers. Rinse off after fifteen minutes.
2. Cinnamon
Cinnamon cream for stubborn cellulite is a popular solution to combat lumps and bumps. With regular use, cinnamon cream can help reduce the appearance of cellulite.
A study in Europe found that women regularly using cream infused with cinnamon oil had a sixty-percent reduction in the appearance of cellulite after one year.
To make your own cinnamon cellulite cream, add ten drops of cinnamon essential oil to one cup of unscented body lotion. Massage the lotion into the skin where cellulite is present.
Wash your hands after using cinnamon cream and avoid getting it into your eyes. To get the best results, use cinnamon cream daily.
3. Caffeine
Caffeine is one of the top ingredients in many fast-acting cellulite treatments.
Caffeine has been found effective in some studies to reduce the look of lumps and bumps caused by cellulite.
Caffeine is believed to smooth and tighten the skin, which minimizes the cottage cheese appearance of cellulite, especially in problem areas such as legs, buttocks, and the stomach.
One such remedy containing caffeine can be made at home using instant coffee. To make a single-use treatment, combine three tablespoons of instant coffee with one tablespoon of olive oil and one tablespoon of warm water.
Stir the mixture until it is blended and resembles chocolate syrup. Stand in the bath or shower and massage the treatment into your skin in those areas affected by cellulite.
Continue massaging for fifteen minutes, then rinse it off. This treatment leaves the skin feeling soft and helps release toxins.
